Since 1929 it's a San Francisco staple. There's no question that the sandwiches are great. Every sandwich is handmade including cutting the meat for each person. This is good but slows down the process. Our wait time was 1 hour.

Came on a Sunday. Took over an hour to get a sandwich. Order ahead so you can pick up. I would come back and try another sandwich but not on a weekend. Muffuletta was kind of underwhelming after waiting an hour.

Funny story: I was in SF visiting a pregnant friend a few months back. I doordashed some sandwiches from Lucca.. my pregnant friend wanted a classic chicken salad sandwich, but I accidentally ordered the Chutney sandwich. There was a hormonal meltdown and I felt SO bad! Fast forward to today: it's her bday and I doordashed her the correct sandwich Anyway, back to my review for Lucca. This place is one of my favorite sandwich shops EVER!! I love the caprese with prosciutto! All the bread here is delicious but my absolute fave one is their focaccia! It's so beyond delicious!! They also use high quality olive oil which I appreciate! There's usually a line but it's worth the wait!!! Also the customer service is very friendly! I have found that some delis have rude workers, but not here! Everyone has been very accommodating and kind!

Weekends can be quite packed. I would recommend ordering online before even leaving the house. The restaurant is quite small and can feel crowded with just a few guests waiting in line. Today, the line was out the door but the staff seemed collected and served us with a smile on their face. I can't even imagine how stressful it may be to work there during the weekend lunch rush. The sandwiches live up the the hype! The Calabrian on a sour roll has been my go to for awhile, but I expect to be back to try the other sandwiches. The bread they use is from Acme, a local brand, which is awesome.

Amazing sandwiches! A few months ago, we placed a group order, but it was unexpectedly canceled due to flooding. But we decided to give them another try for our team lunch, and they did a spectacular job. The sandwiches were delicious, well-packed and labeled, and they arrived on time. Many people in our group found their sandwiches to be delicious, and we'll definitely be ordering again soon. I highly recommend the Caprese with prosciutto sandwich (a lot of people "wow'ed") and the Italian sandwich.

Your experience here will depend largely on what you order. I went with two staples: Caprese with Proscuitto (served on Acme ciabatta) and #1 Italian Combo (served on sourdough). Both were very tasty and high quality, with the former getting a slight edge due to ingredient freshness (namely the mozzarella) and overall value. That sandwich came to $15 before tax, which, given the amount of cheese they pile on, is very fair (you can't get a pound of fresh mozzarella à la carte for that much). I highly recommend opting for the "upgraded" Caprese, which adds prosciutto. The extra saltiness really just makes for a divine combination that melts in the mouth. The Italian combo was good, but if I'm being honest, I think there are better options elsewhere in the city. At $15 it's also a decent value, but I feel the uniqueness of the Caprese edges it out on this front, as well. There wasn't anything "wrong" with this sandwich, per se, I just found it to be a pretty average offering, all around. Note that both sandwiches were physically on the smaller side, so keep that in mind if you're hungry. Pro tip: they get very busy, so order ahead on Uber Eats or DoorDash 30-45 min ahead of time. Add +$1.50 per sandwich due to platform fees if you decide to go this route. Otherwise be prepared to wait in the store.

I'll start off by saying I'm not a big sandwich person (like if I had the choice between a rice bowl and a sandwich, I usually pick the former)... but this place has the best sandwich I've eaten in SF. I made my own sandwich with prosciutto, and the meat and veggies are flavorful and juicy, with the bread nice and thick (but not overwhelming). This is certainly not your typical ol' dry sandwich. It's pretty easy to order at the counter, and you'll see a lot of locals frequenting here for a good reason. A perfect weekend or weekday lunch.

Sometimes I watch a PBS cooking show with local chef Joanne Weir. In one episode, she visited her favorite deli, and it looked like the type of popular spot you'd find in Philly or the Lower East Side in NYC. That was what prompted me to head to the Marina because I rarely venture into this tony neighborhood. Just not my scene unless I'm hanging out at the Presidio. It was quite the packed shop with plenty of delectables in their long display case...salads, sausages, pastas, roast chicken, cheese. Customers pre-order the ravioli for the holidays. Clearly it must be good. I didn't know there was a number ordering system until an aggressive Karen grabbed four numbers in front of me for her and her friends who had not shown up yet. I finally got my chance to order, and I went with the $14.99 Pork-etta, a simple porchetta sandwich with arugula and red onion and drizzled with olive oil in a soft ciabatta roll (photo: https://yelp.to/BkppqEjl1S). There was no place to eat it here, so I sauntered over to the courtyard next to the library where I found a free bench. Ah, it was pretty tasty even though the bread-to-meat ratio was a bit high for me. Joanne was right though. FOOD - 4 stars...a solid sandwich with quality porchetta though a tad bready AMBIANCE - 3.5 stars...atmospheric shop, plenty of delectables but no place to sit and enjoy SERVICE - 4 stars...once my number was called, it was a breeze TOTAL - 4 stars...an East Coast deli that made me miss Miller's on Polk RELATED - Exploring the Marina? I'm not exaggerating when I say I wanted to buy EVERYTHING! All of the sandwiches sounded amazing, everything in the deli cases looked phenomenal, and that cold case...just WOW! We got two sandwiches and the potato salad to take for a picnic in the park and it was all perfect. For the sandwiches we got the caprese with prosciutto and the Pork-etta. We really enjoyed both of them but the caprese came out as the winner. It was the perfect balance of light and refreshing, with a salty twist from the prosciutto. The potato salad was really unique as the potatoes were sliced like those you'd find in scalloped potatoes. Absolutely loved this potato salad and had to resist the urge to eat it all instead of sharing. A must order to accompany your sandwich. Service and hospitality was great. Could tell that the people working really cared about the customers and they were happy to help!
